I have spent most of my career in the corporate travel industry and have had the very good fortune to work with some wonderful people and visit some amazing places. My two passions in life are travelling to new places, and meeting new people.  I find both fascinating. In 2017 I took a leap of faith and started my own consulting business. The diverse mix of work I undertook was breathtaking and I found that career wise, I had never been so happy, so busy or so poor!  No one was taking credit for my work only me and life was amazing. The range of projects was so diverse, from corporate travel account management, that had been my life for years, to event planning for the local mayor.  I worked as a photographer for corporates and for Santa in a Christmas Tree Farm. I also built websites and managed social media campaigns.

At the start of 2020 I was asked to take a new full-time role, it was an opportunity too good to resist. I started in January 2020 and the word COVID hung in the air but we had no idea of the impact to come.  Early in March 2020 I held a team meeting in London and asked my team to work from home for 8-12 weeks while this passed, and I was also asked to take a pay cut by our VC owned company.

Then COVID took hold.

While my colleagues and friends were all on furlough, I was working flat out many, many hours a day.

I went through the first lock down living alone and working long days and weekends, it was a tough and lonely time.  I was grateful for my amazing family, friends and neighbours, together with loads of Zoom calls, Zoom Pilates classes, doorstep chats and laughter over the garden fence which kept me going.    My gorgeous 2-year-old great nephew gave me fabulous virtual hugs while taking it all in his stride.  I have to confess its very hard to read a bedtime story via Zoom to a 2-year-old, but I kept a supply of books handy, ready and willing.

Exhausted, I met all deadlines set throughout the year.  On 21 November I was told I was being made redundant.  I felt let down, betrayed, and used, that after a year of giving my all I was cut loose with nothing other than normal salary and 4 weeks’ notice.

So that was my 2020.  I spent the last week of November and into December sulking and feeling like I was coming out of a relationship having been cheated on.

But there is always a sunny side. Now I had the time to think about what I wanted to do next.

Hello 2021

As you will see from my earlier experiences I will graft and make life work for me.    I took temporary jobs as a key worker packing online food shopping orders in the middle of the night, as a Civil Servant leading a team in the 2021 Census, and decided to study for another degree.  I took temping roles all over the place and hit the books.  After a lot of research I opted for Life Coaching with a focus on resilience, so that I would be able to help people in a similar situation to me.

That was my 2021,  work, study, eat, sleep, repeat.

That's not all for 2021

Along with studying resilience,  I lost 3 stone following my own coaching programme. I am a lifelong serial dieter;  I have been on a diet for as long as I can remember.  Once I changed my mindset and stopped depriving myself,  the weight fell off.  With the added incentive of a family wedding that I wanted to look fabulous for, 2021 was truly a year for personal development.

Armed with my new qualification, who am I going to help?
  • Career women who need resilience
  • Serial dieters who want to live at their happy weight
  • Fabulous women with imposter syndrome doing an amazing job who just need help seeing it for themselves.
So here we are in 2022, it’s been a journey. I am proudly holding my accreditation in coaching and ready to help.
